⛔ Consultation has concluded
Managing waste effectively is essential for protecting our environment, reducing landfill, and ensuring a sustainable future for Oberon. Council is committed to working with the community to create a strategy that reflects local priorities and needs.
In September, Council consulted with the community to gather feedback that would help guide the development of Oberon’s next Waste Strategy.
Based on the feedback received and an independent review of current services, Council has developed a series of draft strategic actions. These actions focus on reducing the amount of waste generated, increasing reuse, recycling, and improving resource recovery.
We are now seeking your input on these draft actions. Your feedback in this second survey will help Council prioritise the delivery of these actions.
The survey should take no more than 10 minutes to complete.
Survey Closes midnight Tuesday, 2nd December 2025.

FOGO - Oberon is a large rural LGA and hard to provide FOGO across the board. Only introduce FOGO to areas with regular garbage collection and ONLY if the cost is directly charged to those receiving the service and not to the whole LGA. Residents should be composting their own food waste and not sending it off to landfill or for processing. It is not hard to do. Perhaps a community compost area at the tip (with CCTV to dissuade contamination and misuse). Additional transfer station - depends where it is located. The western side of the LGA is well serviced and Duckmaloi Rd splits the north and south side of east meaning that a fair proportion of the eastern residents would have to come through Oberon to get to a site if on the other side of Duckmaloi Rd. We may as well just go to the Tip. Return and Earn - make sure it is in a non-residential area as they can be noisy - particularly the collection of all the glass. The tip or the new sports ground would seem to be the most appropriate sites. Tip shop - we could include collection of some hard to recycle items - such as blister packs, soft plastics, bottle caps etc.

Disappointed in survey.
There was no question relating to Recycling or FOGO. There was no question related to waste transfer stations. There was no question related to specific modelling re resource recovery and Council Vs Contractor modelling.
Councillors on the waste working party have put significant effort into attending workshops, overseeing documents and giving feedback only for it to be completely discounted.
You cannot expect community to be satisfied nor give adequate feedback when content is limited.
