At the Ordinary Council Meeting held on 17 February 2026, Oberon Council resolved to place the final Draft Waste and Resource Management Strategy on public exhibition for a period of 28 days.
Council has been developing the Strategy since May 2025, in consultation with the Waste Working Party and Talis Consultants. The Strategy has been informed by two community engagement surveys, undertaken in September and December 2025, together with an independent review of current waste services.
The Draft Strategy established a clear framework to guide the delivery of waste and resource recovery services across the Oberon local government area. It responds to changing regulatory requirements, including the mandatory introduction of Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO) collection by 2030, as well as increasing service delivery costs and evolving community expectations.
The Strategy focuses on:
Reducing the amount of waste generated
Increasing opportunities for reuse, recycling and resource recovery
Maintaining reliable, affordable and sustainable services
Preparing for future regulatory requirements
The Draft Waste and Resource Management Strategy will be on public exhibition from Tuesday 24 February 2026, to Wednesday 25 March 2026. You can view the Draft Strategy in the Documents section of this page, and at Council's Administration Office during business hours.
Submissions can be made below, emailed to council@oberon.nsw.gov.au or sent via post to The General Manager - Oberon Council, PO Box 84, OBERON NSW 2787.
Written submissions must be received by 4.30pm on 25 March 2026
